Product information

Wheels and castors in Hjulex range of products are intended for manual use, at walking speed, in non continuing use. Wheels only are intended to be assembled as fork assemblies. The products are tested to the norm DIN EN 12527. The load capacities started in the catalogue is valid only when the products are used in accordance to this norm.

That means in practice that if for example the speed is higher than 4 km/h, the temperature is higher then 28*C or less than 15*C or if the floor is not flat, clean and hard the real load capacity is less. This is often the case! A load capacity from experience will from case to case replace those given under ideal circumstances.

Normal load capacity
The norm, DIN EN 12527, stipulates the condition to be met during the load capacity test. Institutional castors are tested in the test gig, with horizontal disk rotating giving a speed to the castor of 3km/h. heavier castors are tested towards a rotating drum, at 4 km/h. The temperature must be in between 15*C and 28*C. The test lenght to be passed is 15,000 x wheel diameter, and containst obstacles with a height of 2,5%, respectively 5%, of the wheel diameter. If the wheel tread is softer than 90*Shore the obstacles is 2,5% high, otherwise 5%. 

Required load capacity
In reality the conditions often differ from the ideal. The required load capacity is therefore higher than the actual load. it is necessary to include a safety factor, from 1,3 until 2,0, to the calculation! The safety factor 1,3 corresponds to that 3 out of 4 castors carries the load. The bigger the difference, the bigger the safety factor needs to be. Deviations that often occur is a higher speed, uneven floor, driven applications, a.s.o.

Required load capacity = ((dead weight + load)/numbers of castors) x safety factor

Correct assembly of the castors

All wheels and castors on a trolley needs to be assembled parallel and vertically at the same height. The asembly details needs to be strong enough, correctly designed, and must not disturb the castors in any way.

External influence from chemicals and temperatures

For out of door use, or in the other corrosive enironments, Hjulex offers a range of stainless steel castors and wheel in non corrosive materials. Nominal dimensions

Please note that all dimensions in the catalogue are nominal. All measurements are subjected to tolerances, of course well inside the norm, DIN EN 12527. In case you need for example the total height or the swivel radius to be just less than the nominal one, please contact us for advice!
